Removing the gas engine

Old mower Here is the mower that my neighbor gave me.  It had blown a valve or something and was too expensive to repair, so he gave it to me.  It was a nice Sears Craftsman 5 HP machine.
measuring the blade height Before removing the motor, I measured the blade height relative to the bottom edge of the base.  This will be useful when installing the blade to the new motor.
detailed notes I took detailed notes of the blade height, and also took a rubbing of the old blade mount.  These measurements will help in selecting a new blade and split taper bushing to mount it to the new motor.  Using the original blade is my first choice, but it may not adapt readily.
Mower under side Removing the old motor is pretty simple - 3 big bolts from the under side go right into the motor housing.  Disconnect the throttle cable from the motor - you will use it later. motor removed
Mower stripped

Mower deck painted

I stripped, cleaned and painted the deck with a durable green hammer tone spray paint.  Now it's a Green Machine!
