"Digital Numeric Relevator Mk XI - Transient Couplings"
completed May 1995
8" X 5" diameter

A contrast in technologies this work uses one of the earliest numeric display technologies, yet it is controlled by (then) state of the art electronics.  I used FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) chips to program the cross fades between numbers in each location.

Each display contains 12 miniature projectors designed to shine the image of a number onto the frosted glass screen in front.  Typically the numbers would be switched from one to the next by lighting different projector lamps in the back.  In this case I programmed then to cross-fade.  Thus an "8" will slowly fade out as a "4" fade up.
