"The Mother and Child Reunion"

This is a piece that I had been trying to make for
over a year.
The title is from a line in a Paul Simon song and lyric;
"The mother and child reunion is only a motion away".
The idea of magnetically levitating a wood art piece
obsessed me for months, and
the outcome was my my own electronics design for magnetic levitation.
I wrote an article
about my design for an electronics hobby magazine called
Nuts & Volts. I
designed and marketed a kit of parts for
the project which resulted
in the components that I used in this piece.
The "child" hangs about 1/4" below the "mother" and
moves
around slightly in a breeze.
The electronics are accessible inside the top.
