"Tensegrity Rocket"

This piece was inspired by Buckminster Fuller's tensegrity concept for structures supported entirely by tensioned cables.   I also dug a humorous sketch out of my files that I had done as s kid (see below).

I then did a sketch for the idea that evolved from this:

In my research I also found reference to a huge 300ft "Skylon" tower that was erected in London for the Festival of Britain in 1951.  This was also part of the inspiration for this artwork.
